Maruti Suzuki
New Delhi, Jun 17: Normal production at Manesar plant will resume from Saturday, Jun 18, said Maruti Suzuki.

"Normal production will start from Saturday as the strike has ended last night," said an official from the company.

Maruti Suzuki India will take back all the 11 sacked employees of the company and will enforce a no work no pay rule for every single day of strike as signed by the representatives of the striking workers and the management.

The agreement did not have any mention of the main demand of forming a union, that lead to counter claims between the management and the workers. The agreement was volunteered by by the Haryana government.

"There is no mention of having the second union in the agreement as the management strictly does not have any role to play in setting up a union," said Shiv Kumar, General Secretary for recently formed Maruti Suzuki Employees Union's (MSEU)

"As soon our application, which was submitted on June 3, gets approved by the Haryana Labour Department, MSEU will come into effect," he said.

The main issue has not yet been accepted by the company, said a senior company official. The workers were on strike since Jun 4.

"We are taking off today and hold a puja at the plant on our victory. We will start work from tomorrow and also work on Sunday, which is our regular weekly holiday," said Kumar revealing they will work on Sunday to make up for the loss that happened during the strike.

The strike has affected the production at the Manesar plant. The supply of popular models, the SX4 and DZire have been hit. During this period the company has suffered losses worth approximately Rs 600 crore so far. The company, Maruti Suzuki, will release a new waiting list soon.

On June 4, workers went on a strike demanding the recognition of a new union, Maruti Suzuki Employees Union (MSEU), formed by those working at the Manesar plant, among other things.

Cracking the whip, the company had fired 11 workers last week for allegedly inciting others to go on strike. Currently, the company has one recognised union -- Maruti Udyog Kamgar Union -- which is dominated by workers at the Gurgaon plant.

The Manesar plant rolls out about 1,200 units every day in two shifts. It produces hatchbacks Swift and A-Star and sedans Dzire and SX4 at the Manesar plants.
