Second postmortem into death of Swami Nigamanand ordered
"The postmortem is being conducted again as there are doubts over the first one. A team of three doctors will conduct the postmortem," said Dr Sharma.
Congress on Thursday, Jun 16 demanded that Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Chief Minister, Uttarakhand to resign on the grounds that it was the state government's negligence that led to Swami Nigamanand's dead.
“The death of Nigamanand due to lack of proper medical care clearly shows that the BJP government has completely failed to discharge its duty," said Kishore Upadhyay, Spokesman , Uttarakhand Congress Legislature Party.
“Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank should immediately resign from the post," he added.
A CBI probe was ordered into the dead of Swami Nigamanand after the government came under pressure to go for an independent probe. Margaret Alva, Governor, Uttarakhand also urged the state government to do the same.
Uttarakhand government yesterday recommended a CBI probe into the matter as pressure mounted on it from various quarters including Governor Margaret Alva who advised the state government to go for an independent probe.
A fight between the ashram authorities and Swami Nigamanand's family is going on, on who will perform the last rites.
Swami Nigamanand's brother and father were not allowed to enter the ashram after they claimed to take away the body to perform last rites.
According to the Swami's followers, the family never bothered to visit him even once after they came to know about his illness. His family is now protesting outside the Matri Sadan Ashram.
After a pathology test was conducted on the Swami, it was found that the swami might have been poisoned. The postmortem report however ruled out the possibility that he might have died due to poisoning.
Swamy Nigamanad was fasting against the illegal mining that was done on the banks of river Ganga. He was admitted to a hospital in Apr after his health started worsening. He later died on Monday, Jun 13.
