PayPal, eBay sue Google over 'Wallet' pickpocketing
Google revealed the much awaited Google Wallet at a special event in New York on May 26. Using the Google Wallet app, users will be able to tap, pay and save using their smartphones. It also lets to store users credit cards, offers, loyalty cards and gift cards, but without the bulk.
The lawsuit filed in Superior Court of the State of California accused that the California-based Google hired former PayPal executive Osama Bedier to get trade secrets, which are used in Google Wallet.
"By hiring Bedier, with his trade secret knowledge of PayPal's plans and understanding of Google's weaknesses as viewed by the industry leader, Google bought the most comprehensive and sophisticated critique of its own problems available," the court filing said.
"Google put Bedier in charge of its mobile payment business, virtually ensuring that Bedier would misappropriate PayPal's trade secrets concerning planning and competitive assessments in mobile payment."
Suit also charged Bedier, now Google's vice president of payments, of attempting to recruit former colleagues still at PayPal.
"Bedier had an intimate knowledge of PayPal's capabilities, strategies, plans, and market intelligence regarding mobile payment and related technologies. He is now leading Google's efforts to bring point of sale technologies and services to retailers on its behalf," the court documents said.
eBay alleged that its former employ Tilenius, who worked in at eBay from 2001 to Oct 2009, recruited Bedier to get the trade secrets.
