Sonia plays politics congratulates Jayalalithaa
"Gandhi called up all leaders from all the election going states who have emerged victorious. Phone calls were made to leaders across political lines," a senior Congress leader said.
There was speculation that Gandhi also invited Jaya for tea in New Delhi, but there was no confirmation. The AIADMK combine led by Jayalalithaa defeated the DMK-led coalition of which Congress is a part.
Few months before the assembly elections, Jayalalithaa had expresed readiness to join hands with Congress if it dumped the DMK, which has 18 Lok Sabha MPs.
DMK is the third largest constituent of the UPA after the Congress and Trinamool Congress and is part of the ruling alliance at the Centre.
