Karnataka
Karwar /Karnataka, April 20: The third unit of Kaiga Nuclear Power plant which was shut down on April 8 following a fire alarm, was restarted, authorities said today (April 20).

"Kaiga generation station Unit-3 which was shut down, was synchronised to the Southern grid at 2325 hours last night after successful completion of all surveillance tests," Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd said in a release here.

The 220-MWe unit is presently operating at 120MWe and its power would be raised gradually, it said. Presently all four units of the Kaiga generating stations are operational, it said.

The third unit was shut down on April 8 after a fire alarm went off. Authorities later declared the plant safe and said the level of radiation was below prescribed standards.

A team of experts have been conducting investigations into the cause of fire alarm and is yet to submit its findings, an official of Kaiga Nuclear plant told PTI.
