Maruti's sales cross million units in 2nd fiscal

NEW DELHI: The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India, which became the first company in India to sell one million units in a single year of last fiscal, has already crossed the one million unit mark within ten months of this fiscal.

The company sold a total of 9,27,655 units during the April-December this fiscal. The sale figure includes both domestic sales and exports. "As on January 25, domestic wholesales is at 73,874 units, while the export figures will be compiled at the end of the month. Even then, we have already crossed the one million mark of this fiscal," a senior Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) official said.

MSI's total sales in the April-January, without the January export figures, stands at 10,01,529 units. At present, MSI contributes over 50 per cent to parent Suzuki Motor Corp's total global sales volume. In 2009-10 fiscal, MSI's total sales stood at 10,18,365 units.

To meet rising demand, MSI is now setting up third plant at its Manesar facility with a capacity of 2.5 lakh units per annum by investing Rs 1,925 crore.

It has already set up its second plant with a capacity of 2.5 lakh units per annum in Manesar at a cost of Rs 1,700 crore. The second plant is to start production by January 2012.

The third plant is to become operational by the end of 2012 or early 2013. Suzuki owns 54.2 in MSI, which has an annual capacity of 8,50,000 units at its Gurgaon plant. Its first plant at Manesar produces 3,50,000 units annually, with a total capacity amounting to 12,00,000 units annually.
