After Haley, Indian-origin Kamala Harris elected
While Republican Haley, originally from Amritsar, scripted history by winning the governorship; Harris took the history-making spree another step forward by becoming the first woman to hold the office of attorney general in California.
Harris is daughter of an Indian mother and African-American father. She would replace Democratic Jerry Brown as the attorney general of California.
Harris, who is currently the San Francisco attorney general, was endorsed by Barack Obama.
"Kamala has done a remarkable job in San Francisco. Now it's time to send her to Sacramento so she can get those same results for all Californians — but she needs our help if she's going to win this race," Obama had said in his endorsement message.
Election for the office of attorney general in California was held on Tuesday, Nov 2.
