Indians protest against racism in Australia
Melbourne, Sep 27: A 22-year-old Indian man was beaten up by four Australian teenagers with baseball bats, who launched the attack after they confirmed that he was an Indian.

The attack, which comes after a brief period of calm down under in terms of racial attacks, took place at around 6.40 am when the man was walking to Sandown Park railway station.

Four teenage males, three with baseball bats, on bikes approached him, police said.

Quoting Police official, Jo Hayden, Dandenong Leader reported that one of the assailants asked the man, “Buddy, are you Indian?"

The man was later hit from behind, fell and was kicked while lying on the ground. He was reportedly bruised in the attack besides sustaining a big cut on his nose.

The victim was taken home by two passers-by, the official informed, adding that the man has identified his assailants as being about 15 to 16 years of age.

Expressing shock that the attack took place in the eastern suburb, which is considered multicultural, Federation of Indian Association of Victoria (FIAV) president Vasan Srinivasan appealed to the youngsters to respect each other so that all can live in harmony and peace.

Hayden also told the newspaper that another Indian was attacked last Tuesday, Sep 21 night, but refused to give any details.
