New York, Sep 10: World renowned celebrity businessman, Donald Trump has stepped in to put an end to the raging row over the controversial Ground Zero mosque by proposing a buy-out.

The real estate mogul has reportedly offered 25 per cent more than what had been paid to purchase the site of the proposed Islamic community centre and mosque near New York's Ground Zero.

In his letter to Hisham Elzanaty, an Egyptian-born New York businessman, whose investment consortium paid $4.8 million for the site, Donald Trump said, "I am making this offer as a resident of New York and citizen of the United States, not because I think the location is a spectacular one (because it is not), but because it will end a very serious, inflammatory, and highly divisive situation."

The Muslim centre near the World Trade Center (WTC) site has been opposed on the grounds of being insensitive and hurtful especially to the familes of the 3,000 victims of the Sep 11, 2001 suicide attack.

Trump made the offer with the condition that any community centre must be built at least five blocks away from the site of the World Trade Centre.

However, Donald Trumps' new campaign has not fit in well with the critics, who believe that this move by the colourful entrepreneur is nothing but a publicity stunt.
