Chennai, Sep 8: The international embarrassments keep rolling in for Delhi Games organisers as the latest advisory issued by US to its citizens in India describes the sad state of roads in the national capital just days ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2010.

The latest advisory issued by the US Mission in India not only alerted the citizens of the security concerns in terms of the terror threat as well as crime but also cautioned its citizens of the hurdles they might face while travelling in Delhi.

"A sizable number of tourists, athletes, and VIP visitors are expected to be in New Delhi for the Games. Due to large crowds and security screening measures, allow plenty of time for travel to game venues," the advisory read.

Elaborating on transportation, the statement said, "US citizens are advised to take care when traveling within Delhi. While many of Delhi's roads and public transport systems have been upgraded for the Games, some roads remain poorly maintained, which can cause traffic delays and accidents."

"Special care should be taken when using public transportation or driving at night," the advisory cautioned, after informing that the Delhi Metro Network has been extended for the Games and all ticket- holding spectators are entitled to free transport to and from the game venues on the Delhi Metro and on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses.

This statement comes as a major shame as the country questions its authorities if the capital is really ready to host the high-profile international sporting event.

The Indian media has been abuzz over the past weeks over the delay in the completion of infrastructure project work related to the games.

This advisory comes as a reality check for the organisers and authorities, who have been claiming that the games will be great success, especially with the games being considered as India's opportunity to showcase its potential in the global arena.
