New Delhi, Aug 30: Backing government on the Nuclear Liability Bill, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday, Aug 30 sought to calm the nerves of the Congress-led UPA on recent reports that several countries would not be interested to come to India.

Government should not be "apologetic" about inserting a clause making the supplier along with the operator liable for any nuclear incident, said leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley.

He termed the reports that this clause would stop suppliers from coming to India as a "phoney campaign".

The senior BJP leader said that the inclusion of suppliers liability would be a feature unique to India and could become a global model.

After it was cleared in the Lok Sabha, Minister of state for science and technology Prithviraj Chavan on Monday, Aug 30 moved the bill in Rajya Sabha.

He observed that the government had made 18 amendments in the controversial bill, which is part of the Indo-US nuclear deal, to meet the demands of the Opposition.
