5 injured in Assam-Arunachal border clash

Guwahati, Aug 30: As the clash continues in the border of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh, 5 people were injured and a vehicle was damaged on Sunday, Aug 29.

"Five Nishi tribal people were going to Itanagar from lower Rowing area of Arunachal Pradesh in a vehicle and when they reached Santipur area, villagers blocked them and questioned about the killing of one Gongaram Patir"s daughter, who was married with a Nishi tribal youth of lower Rowing recently," a police official said.

According to reports Assam government blames the NSCN (I-M) group on the clash in the border.

Assam government spokesman and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told The Assam Tribune that the NSCN (I-M) is under cease-fire agreement with the government of India and the state government has taken up the issue of involvement of the members in the recent border trouble with the Centre.

He said that on earlier occasions also, the state government informed the Centre of the NSCN (I-M) cadres involvement in extortions as well as in creating trouble along the inter-State boundary areas.

He added that strong actions will be taken against anyone found to be making such attempts.
