Lok Sabha
New Delhi, Aug 21: The government has promised to bring the landmark Women's reservation bill to Lok Sabha "soon".

"The women's reservation bill will be a reality soon under the chairmanship of madam speaker. Any amendment will also be taken up at a subsequent period. The house should not reflect a male chauvinist approach," law minister M Veerappa Moily said on Saturday, Aug 21.

Mr Moily made the statement in the Lok Sabha in his reply to a debate on the Personal Laws (Amendment) Bill 2010.

The bill, which provides for 33 per cent reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies, has already been passed in the Rajya Sabha, where the Congress found the support of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Left Front.

The reservation bill, however, faces protests from parties like RJD and Samajwadi Party, which are seeking a quota-within-quota for minorities and the backward sections of the soceity.

Therefore the amendments to the proposed bill are required to meet the demands of these parties for a sub-quota.
