Nuclear damage bill to be discussed in Parliament

New Delhi, Aug 17: Nuclear damage bill should be discussed in parliament by this monsoon session, it can not be left out indefinitely for the passage of the Civil Liability, said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The chairman of the standing committee on science and technology, T Subiram Reddy is confident of presenting the bill in parliament soon.

According to DNA, Reddy clearly said that the demands, by the opposition to enhance the amount of compensation to billions of dollars, is not possible.

Despite not having a clear majority in the Rajya Sabha and a wafer-thin majority in the Lok Sabha, the government is clear on trying its luck.

As the daily report, Singh seems to be ready for the consequences of the move.

He is also prepared to extend the session if the opposition gets in the way by disrupting House proceedings.

Minister of state in the prime minister"s office Prithviraj Chavan said there were only four suppliers of nuclear reactors in the world and two of them are already functional in the country.

The government, by bringing the first ever legislation in the country, would make them accountable in the event of an accident.
