Gandhinagar, Aug 9: Former Gujarat minister Amit Shah has remanded to 13-day judicial custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in 2005.

He was questioned for two days after which he was produced before CBI special judge A Y Dave at his residence.

According to sources, the minister continued to remain passive during the questioning hour and described the case as "baseless" and his lawyer Yatin Oza asserted that Shah had fully cooperated with his interrogators.

The same lock up in the Sabarmati Jail was where Abhay Chudasama deputy commissioner of police was once kept during his remand period. Perhaps for the first time in years, a panting former minister was forced to climb four flights of stairs to reach up to the venue of his interrogations

The reports from the CBI said the minister faced over 300 questions both on Saturday and Sunday.

His repeated answers were "I don't remember". The judge remanded him to judicial custody till Aug 21.

Sohrabuddin Sheikh was killed by the Gujarat police in a staged shootout Nov 26, 2005 near Ahmedabad and his wife Kauserbi is suspected to have been killed at a farm.
