Kashmiri Sikhs restart protest against govt
Jammu, Aug 2: Sikh community at Rajbagh, 75km from Jammu, had blocked the highway on Monday, Aug 2 to protest the "failure" of the Omar Abdullah government to arrest and punish culprits involved in the blasphemous act on Jul 28.
Beside burning tyres, the protesters also raised slogans demanding arrest of the culprits and probe into the incident besides security deployment in and around the places inhabited by Sikhs in the valley.
If the government would fail to take action against the elements responsible for hurting their religious sentiments, they would intensify their agitation, warned the community leaders.
The community protested on Jul 29 against the pro-freedom protesters, who had allegedly attacked a Sikh youth and chopped off his hair in south Kashmir on Jul 28.
Chief minister Omar Abdullah had promised a group of Sikh leaders that the culprits involved in the incident would be arrested soon and such incidents would not be allowed to reoccur.
