New York, Jul 21: The law enforcement officials said that investigators have exploded a working replica of the car bomb used in failed Times Square terror attack and have created a large explosion destroying vehicles and scattering flaming debris.

The testing was done in central Pennsylvania and the effect of the homemade bomb would have killed or wounded an untold number of pedestrians and damaged buildings along the block where the car was abandoned by Faisal Shahzad on May 1,said the officials.

"It would have been extremely deadly,"said Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly when asked about the test at a Washington think tank. Kelley did not go into further FBI test while two other officials told that the test was conducted in remote area, 48 kilometres outside of State College, Pennsylvania, and videotape taken during the test was shown for the authorities to get alert.

The officials spoke to the AP on condition of secrecy as they were not permitted to speak publicly about the test and The FBI's New York refused to make any comments.

The test was first published on Tuesday, Jul 20 in the New York Post, which quoted an unnamed source saying that the test could have been more deadly than the 1995 Oklahoma City car bombing that killed 168 people.

Reacting to this One of the officials said that was an exaggeration, because the Oklahoma City bomb made of fertilizer was roughly 10 times bigger than the one left in Times Square.

Shahzad a "Muslim soldier," pleaded guilty on Jun 21 and revealed that he went to Pakistan in 2009 and received explosives training and funding from the Pakistani Taliban for his one-man scheme.

After which he returned to the United States and loaded a 1993 Nissan Pathfinder with a fertilizer-fueled bomb packed in a gun cabinet, a set of propane tanks and gas canisters rigged with fireworks that he hoped would cause a chain-reaction explosion.
