Airhostess held for picking pockets on flights
London, Jul 21: An Air France airhostess has been arrested after stealing thousands of pounds in cash and valuables as her unsuspecting victims slept on long-haul flights.
Identified as Lucie R, was caught when she got off a Tokyo to Paris flight.
"She knew that many of the passengers would fall asleep following a large meal and lots of alcohol. This is the time that she would start rifling through their property," reported Daily Mail.
The Paris-Tokyo line was her particular favourite, police said, as Japanese customers tend to travel with large amounts of cash.
On one flight to Japan alone, five passengers complained about losing up to 3,700 pounds in cash.
According to investigators, colleagues had become suspicious of Lucie R's lavish lifestyle. Despite officially earning less than 40,000 pounds a year, she regularly turned up for work in a sports car and was buying plush apartments close to the airports where she worked.
"She has confessed to 26 separate thefts that she can remember, but clearly there are others," said police.
Now the airhostess is currently in police custody and she may face up to ten years in jail if convicted. She"s also lost her job.
