US navy deploys blimp to monitor oil spill
Gulf of Mexico, Jul 6: The US Navy has deployed a blimp to monitor the oil spill and to aid the clean-up operations.
The blimp, MZ-3A airship, is capable of staying in the the air for 12 hours, much longer than helicopters or airplanes, the New York Times reported quoting the unified command.
The announcement on deployment of the blimp came on Monday, Jul 5. It is expected to reach the site in the week.
The airship will also detect wildlife that may be in distress.
