Patna, Jun 26: The government continues to face flak from various spheres over the fuel price hike with RJD president now Lalu Prasad slamming the move as 'unwarranted'.

Speaking to reporters on the EGoM's Friday, Jun 25 announcement of petrol, diesel, Kerosene, LPG price hike, the former Railway Minister said that this move will further rise the rates of essential commodities.

Terming the present decision to increase the prices of petroleum products is 'anti-people', Mr Prasad said that he had actually expected the government to take measures to tame inflation.

“Bharat sarkar ki ulti giniti shru ho gai hai" (the countdown of the fall of the UPA government has begun)," he stated.

He warned that a movement would be launched from 'sadak to parliament' to dethrone the reigning government.

The government on Friday, Jun 25 hiked petrol prices by Rs 3.50 per litre, diesel by Rs 2 per litre, while Kerosene got dearer by Rs 3 per litre and a cyclinder of LPG will cost Rs 35 more.

The EGoM meeting headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee decided to free petrol and diesel prices from government control so that the prices are market-driven.

The Congress-led UPA government has already heard the Opposition party Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) scathing remarks on the move along with the key ally Trinamool Congress supremo and Railway Minister Mamata Benerjee's grouses that the price rise would affect the aam admi and therefore her party was not in agreement with the government's decision.
