New Delhi, Jun 9: B R Lall, the CBI officer who did the Bhopal gas tragedy investigation said that the investigating agency was forced by the Narasimha Rao government in 1994, not to pressurize for the extradition of Warren Anderson, reports Times of India.

"We (CBI) were forced by ministry of external affairs officials not to follow Anderson's extradition," said B R Lall, the former joint director of CBI. Lall was in charge of the probe from April 1994 to July 1995.

CBI had tried for the extradition of Anderson after he was declared absconder in 1993.

CBI had filed a chargesheet for the homicide and there was enough evidence against Anderson. CBI was going ahead with their investigation when the Ministry of External Affairs intervened to slow down the extradition process, revealed Lall. He also said that CBI did not have the independence to continue with the proceedings, said the retired officer maintaining it clear transparent that the decision not to bring Anderson to trial was not CBI's.

He also said that the CBI investigation was influenced and taken over by some officials, for which the justice for the tragedy just got delayed or even denied eventually to the victims.
