Delhi: BJP puts up hoardings on Afzal Guru case
New Delhi, May 21: Mounting pressure on the Delhi government for decision on Afzhal Guru, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has put up hoardings across the city seeking explanation from the state government on why the case has been dragging on .
"The Delhi BJP has put up the hoardings across the city to ask the chief minister why Afzal Guru's mercy petition file was kept on hold for almost four years. We want a reply from her as soon as possible," the party's city unit chief Vijendra Gupta said.
All the main roads in New Delhi have been decked with the hoardings, which question the Delhi government and prods it to give reasons behind the case of the death row convict's file has been withheld for almost four years.
Afzhal Guru, who was found guilty of plotting the Dec 2001 Parliament Attack, was given the death sentence in 2004. His execution is still due as he has filed a mercy petition.
The Delhi BJP's move was formulated to not only raise public awareness on the issue, but also to raise awareness in the state government of the people's sentiments, Gupta said, demanding that Lieutenant Governor Tajendra Khanna should move Guru's file.
