Faisal Shahzad appears in court
Manhattan, May 19: Faisal Shahzad, the Pak-American terror suspect involved in the New York Times Square bombing plot appeared in a federal court in Manhattan for the first time after his arrest on May 3.
He did not speak much during the court proceedings, which lasted around 15 minutes on Monday, May 17.
Shahzad sat on the defense table beside his attorney Julia Gatto and said 'yes' when asked to confirm the accuracy of a financial statement.
He has been cooperating with the authorities, through out the process. “Shahzad...has provided valuable intelligence from which further investigative action has been taken," said Preet Bharara, the attorney before hearing.
The court has filed him under charges including attempted terrorism and attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, which could invite a lifetime imprisonment if convicted.
