Washington, May 8: With the arrest of a Pakistani-American, Faisal Shahzad, in connection with the attempted Times Square bombing pointing at a strong Pakistan link, the United States has warned Pakistan that it would face serious consequences if it sponsored or supported terrorism.

"We've made it very clear that if, heaven-forbid, an attack like this that we can trace back to Pakistan were to have been successful, there would be very severe consequences," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in a blunt warning.

Even though she acknowledged Pakistan's increased cooperation in the war against terror, Clinton said that US wants and expects even more from Islamabad.

"We've gotten more cooperation and it's been a real sea change in the commitment we've seen from the Pakistan Government. [But] We want more. We expect more," she said in an interview to CBS' '60 Minutes' programme, which is scheduled to be aired on Sunday, May 9.

Excerpts of the interview were released on Friday, May 7.
