New Delhi, May 7: Animal-lovers and activists will be staging protests on Friday, May 7 at the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) in Lajpat Nagar to express their revolt against a barbaric act by DJB employees, who along with the security guards and local miscreants butchered and ate portions of stray dogs a few days ago.

It was reported on Wednesday, May 5 that DJB employees, security guards and local criminal elements from Vinoba Puri not only killed as many as 11 dogs but also ate parts of 6 to 7 community dogs, which lived near the Delhi Jal Board complex at Jal Sadan.

The incident reportedly took place on Sunday, May 2 night, when four guards, other staff members on emergency duty, and canteen workers along with local criminal elements killed the animals in a brutal manner.

The accused allegedly broke the legs of the dogs and inflicted deep cuts on them with spears and choppers. After eating portions of the dogs, the staff and the miscreants threw remains of the animals into the adjoining areas.

The animal rights acitivists have taken the incident into serious consideration and are mulling action against the people who indulged in the sub-human behavior as well as the DJB authorities.

The accused will attract legal action under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (1960) and the Indian Penal Code, Sections 428 and 429. Cruelty towards animals is punishable with imprisonment and fine.
