IT sleuths find 'incriminating documents' on KKR

Kolkata/Mumbai, Apr 22: The Income Tax (IT) department officials, who conducted raids on four IPL teams on Wednesday, Apr 21, have revealed that some 'incriminating documents' were recovered at the offices of Shah Rukh Khan-owned Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

The eight-hour long searches began on Apr 21 evening and went on till 1 am on Thursday, Apr 22 morning. IT officials searched the offices of Chennai Super Kings in Chennai, Deccan Chargers in Hyderabad, Kings XI Punjab in Gurgaon and KKR in Kolkata.

“We have some incriminating documents related to IPL and KKR. We will further investigate its nature and all transactions of IPL, KKR and CAB," Akhilendu Jadhav, an IT official, told reporters in Kolkata.

IT sleuths also questioned CAB office bearers, including its joint secretary Biswarup Dey.

When asked if the they were planning on conducting a similar raid at the office of CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya, an IT official said, “We are satisfied with our inquiry. This is a lengthy process and if needed we will come back again."

The raids were conducted as part of the nation-wide probe launched by tax officials to investigate into alleged financial irregularities in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Since its launch in 2008, IPL has become a money pumping entity for the BCCI.
