Washington, Apr 17: Tough times of Toyota continue as the Japanese car maker is now recalling 600,000 Sienna minivans sold in the United States over safety issues.

The company on Friday, Apr 18 announced the recall of the minivans due to the faulty spare tire cables, which could snap and cause fatal road hazards.

Toyota said that the latest recall applies to 1998-2010 model year Siennas with two-wheel-drive that have been sold or registered in the District of Columbia and 20 other states in the northern mid-west and north-eastern United States.

While the company said that it had received no reports on accidents or injuries, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that there were six complaints of spare tires falling off Siennas.

The latest safety problem with the Sienna minivans emerged as House investigators planned to hold one more congressional hearing in May 2010 to review potential electronic problems in runaway Toyotas.

The reputation of quality and safety which the company earned over the years came crashing down
when the company was ealier forced to recall over 8 million vehicles with faulty accelerator pedals.

Information on Toyota recall is available on the company website.
