Kumbh Mela stampede: Death toll up to 7
Haridwar, Apr 14: The death toll of the Kumbh Mela stampede has been put up to seven.
According to the latest inputs, seven people, including five women, one man and an infant died in the stampede which broke out while Sadhus were preparing to start a procession.
The Peshwai procession was being held for the biggest 'Shahi Snan' on the occasion of Baisakhi.
Stampede at Kumbh Mela, 2 killed
As the Maha Kumbh Mela is set to end, tens of thousands of pilgrims gathered at Haridwar leading to a stampede, which claimed two lives.
As per media reports, the stampede broke out in Chandipur, approximately 1.5 kms away from the main ghat in Haridwar on Wednesday, Apr 14 morning.
Two women were killed and seven were injured in the stampede, which reportedly occurred while a procession was passing through the area.
The curtains fall on the three month long Kumbh Mela with Hindu pilgrims gathering here to take part in the 'shahi snan' or 'holy dip' in the River Ganga.
Kumbh Mela, which takes place once every 12 years, began in Jan 2010.
