Women's Bill: Govt to meet all parties again

Agartala, Apr 13: The Centre has decided to hold another all-party meeting to arrive at a consensus on the Women's Reservation Bill this week, the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanasamy said on Tuesday, Apr 13.

Speaking to reporters, Narayansamy said, "Our government is determined to reserve one third of all seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The bill will be tabled in the current session of parliament this week."

On Apr 5, the all-party meeting was chaired by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. It failed to arrive at consenses as some parties expressed different opinions on the bill.

The Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Lok Janashakti Party, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and a section of the Janata Dal-United opposed the bill which was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Mar 9.
