Jaipur, Apr 5: The state government has taken serious note of the medical negligence on the part of the Zenana Hospital staff leading to a woman giving birth to a premature baby on the pavement outside the hospital premises.

Minister of state for health Rajkumar Sharma has reportedly ordered an inquiry into the incident which took place on Saturday, Apr 3.

Saying that the incident was disgraceful, the minister has promised action against the hospital if it was found at fault.

"The allegations made against the hospital administration are serious in nature and if they are found true, disciplinary action will be taken," the minister is quoted as saying in Times of India.

On Saturday, Apr 3, the woman, who was seven-months pregnant, was on her way to the hospital for a check-up. When the woman and her husband reached close to the hospital the woman started experiencing labour pains.

The husband's cries for help was reportedly ignored by the hospital authorities. The staff allegedly asked him to carry his wife into the hospital if he wanted her to be treated.

Laying on the pavement helpless and in pain for over an hour, the woman finally gave birth to a baby which died within minutes of the delivery.

As expected, the hospital authorities plead innocence claiming that there was no medical negligence on the part of the staff.
