India successfully tests two N-capable missiles
Bhubaneshwar, Mar 27: India successfully tested two nuclear capable missiles Dhanush and Prithvi II near Bhubaneshwar on Saturday, Mar 27 morning.
Prithvi, India's first indigenously built ballistic missile, was launched from Chandipur, about 230 km from state capital Bhubaneswar. Dhanush, which is the naval version of Prithvi was launched from a naval ship off Orissa coast.
Director of Integrated Test Range of Chandipur in Balasore district, SP Dash informed, "Both the missiles were successfully lunched same time at 5:30 hours."
Both the nuclear capable missiles have a range of 350 km.
The surface-to-surface Prithvi II is one among the five missiles developed under India's Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP). It is capabile of carrying 500 kg of warhead. The test was carried out by Indian Army, in the presence of defence scientists, to access its accuracy.
Dhanush bolsters Indian Navy by giving the defence wing the capability of launching a missile onto enemy's targets with precision. It was tested by Indian Navy personnel trained by the DRDO.
