Patna, Mar 12: In a shocking incident, a woman who was declared dead by the doctors came back to life, just minutes before being cremated.

45-year-old Sharda Devi, who was suffering from meningitis, was admitted to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) on Saturday, Mar 6.

She was declared dead by the doctors on Sunday, Mar 7 and was issued a death certificate without any proper tests.

Sharda was taken back to her village by her relative for last rites.

"But we didn"t immediately cremate her. We decided to wait for my daughter, who lives in Kanpur, so that she could see her mother one last time," Sharda's husband, Baso Pandit said.

But the family was in for a suprise when they found Sharda alive, just minutes before the last rites.

"My daughter arrived late on Sunday evening, after which we carried Sharda"s body to the cremation ground. We placed her body on the funeral pyre and I was about to set it alight when we noticed some movement. My relatives and I didn"t know what to make of it. I went ahead and lifted the sheet off Sharda"s body and found that my wife had come back to life," a shocked Pandit said.

Pandit and his relatives rushed Sharda to the hospital where a local doctor confirmed that she was alive after checking her pulse and heart beat.

Finding his dead wife alive, Pandit criticised the doctors at PMCH hospital for medical negligence.

However, the doctors in the PMCH hospital maintained that the death certificate was issued after Sharda was found 'clinically dead'

"There are certain criteria for declaring a patient dead. The death certificate is issued only after all criteria are fulfilled," they said.

Sadly, Sharda passed away in the local nursing home where she was admitted for treatment after coming alive.
