New Delhi, Mar 2: Amidst the uproar created by her article, Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen has denied writing it for the Kannada newspaper, stating that the article was a 'deliberate attempt to malign her'.

In a news agency report, Nasreen while expressing shock over incident, denied writing an article for any newspaper in Karnataka.

"The incident that occurred in Karnataka on Monday shocked me. I learned that it was provoked by an article written by me that appeared in a Karnataka newspaper. But I have never written any article for any Karnataka newspaper in my life," she said.

"The appearance of the article is atrocious. In any of my writings I have never mentioned that Prophet Muhammad was against burkha. Therefore this is a distorted story"

"I suspect that it is a deliberate attempt to malign me and to misuse my writings to create disturbance in the society. I wish peace will prevail." Nasreen said.

Meanwhile the newspaper has said that the article was produced from the earlier writings of the controversial writer, adding that it was reproduced without her permission.

On Monday, Mar 1 violence broke out in Shimoga and Hassan towns of Karnataka after a translated version of an article by Nasreen on burqa was published in a Kannada daily.

Two people were killed and atleast 25 people were injured in the violence.

Curfew has been clamped down in Shimoga, while prohibitory orders have been imposed in Bangalore and Hassan on Tuesday, Mar 2.

"The situation in the town is peaceful and under control. No untoward incident has been reported since Monday evening. The three-day curfew will be in force till Wednesday evening," Shimoga Superintendent of Police S Murugan said in a news agency report.
