Rail Budget 2010: Passenger fares to be untouched
New Delhi, Feb 23: Railways Minister Mamata Benerjee is all set to present Rail Budget 2010 in the parliament on Wednesday, Feb 23.
As the country waits anxiously to hear what the minister has to offer in her second UPA-II budget, the minister is expected to stick to her signature populist style of doing things to reach out to the common man.
With the elections coming up in West Bangal and Bihar, the minister is also expected to leave the passenger fares untouched.
Rail Bhavan sources have revealed that the Rail Budget 2010 includes additional trains and innovative schemes. The minister will also be setting the stage for the big Railways Vision document.
Banerjee unveiled the in the Vision Document 2020 in the 2009 Winter Session of Parliament.
"Most of the proposals mentioned in the vision document like expansion of rail network, raising train speed and safety measures and commercial utilisation of railway land are expected to find mention in the rail budget," the sources informed.
