Bangalore, Feb 12: The attack on Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik for threatening to disrupt Valentine's day celebrations, seems to have served as a wake up call to the government prompting it to step security for the V-Day which falls on Sunday, Feb 14.

A high-level meeting was held at the residence of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, after which the government ordered for heightened security arrangements at all sensitive places across the state.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, state Home Minister V S Acharya said, "We will maintain vigil. Those celebrating Valentine's Day should not cross the limits. Same rule applies to moral policing too."

The government has also condemned the attack against Muthalik and the minister warned the people against taking law into their own hands.

On Thursday, Feb 11, a group of youngsters caught hold of Muthalik and smeared black paint on his face. The assailants were allegedly Youth Congress Workers.

"I condemn such attacks. Congress should restrain their workers", Mr Acharya said.

The attack on Sene chief incited protests in other parts of Karnataka such as Bijapur, Bagalkote, Belgaum, Davanagere.

Activists reportedly forced business establishments to shut shops. However, no untoward incident was reported.

Sri Rama Sene had earlier issued a threat against Valentine's Day saying that couple found indulging in the celebrations will be forced to tie the knot.
