Moderate earthquake shakes Taiwan
Taipei, Jan 19: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale shook the eastern coast Taiwan on Tuesday, Jan 19.
There are no immediate reports of casualties or damage yet.
The earthquake struck at around 2:09 pm (local time). The tremor was centered 19 kilometers east of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan, some 135 kilometers southeast of the capital, the country"s Central Weather Bureau said.
The island often experiences minor earthquakes. However, the massive 1999 earthquake in Taiwan which claimed more than 2000 lives.
Besides, last week's devastating earthquake in Haiti has left the world rattled.
