2010 to be warmest year on record
London, Dec 12: The year 2010 may bring in more than the normal warmth. According to Met Office report, 2010 may turn out to be the warmest year so far.
"It is more likely than not that 2010 will be the warmest year in the instrumental record, beating the previous record year which was 1998," U.K Met office said.
Experts said that the upsurge in temperature can be attributed to a combination of man-made global warming and a phenomenon called El Nino, which involves the moderate warming of the tropical Pacific Ocean.
"Our experimental decadal forecast confirms previous indications that about half the years 2010–2019 will be warmer than the warmest year observed so far — 1998," the Met Office said.
The current year is recorded as the fifth warmest year since 1850.
