'Twilight is moral vacuum with deviant message'

Written by: Staff

Vatican City, Nov 21: After JK Rowling's 'Harry Potter' and Dan Brown's book 'Da Vinci Code', Twilight's sequel 'New Moon' has come under the scanner of the Vatican, which has termed the movie a 'deviant moral vacuum'.

“This theme of vampires in Twilight combines a mixture of excesses that, as ever is aimed at young people and gives a heavy esoteric element," the Vatican's culture council leader, Monsignor Franco Perazzolo said in a statement.

“This film is nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message and as such should be of concern," he adds.

The first movie, 'Twilight' is a story of a vampire falling in love with a teenage girl. The sequel, 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' also features a gang of warewolves.

In the past, there have been several instances of the Catholic Church objecting to films and books.

The Vatican came down heavy upon the Harry Potter movies based on the books written by JK Rowling as it portrayed magic and occult practices.

The Vatican also condemned the Dan Brown book 'Da Vinci Code' which suggested that Jesus Christ married Mary Magdalene and had children. The church even banned the filmmakers of the prequel 'Angels and Demons' from filming in its grounds or any church in Rome, dubbing it “an offence against God".
