Mumbai, Oct 23: Expressing anger and stock over the people's verdict in the Maharashtra Assembly Polls 2009, Shiv Sena supremo, Bal Thackeray blamed the people of the state of 'pushing the state back into hell' by re-electing the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance.

Congress-NCP alliance bagged 144 seats in the 288-member legislative assembly and defeated the biggest opponent Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena combine.

Clearly stunned by the party's defeat in the assembly polls right after the drubbing in Lok Sabha polls, Bal Thackeray questioned the achievements of the government in the past decade, in his editorial piece in Saamna.

"There was corruption, load-shedding, Maoist terror which killed policemen, suicides of thousands of farmers, Mumbai terror attacks, etc," Thackeray wrote in the Shiv Sena mouthpiece.

Holding the people responsible for the defeat of Saffron allinace of BJP and Shiv Sena, Thackeray blamed the people for voting a 'naalayak' (useless) government into power.

Likening the latest elections to Mahabharata, Bal Thackeray said that only difference between the epic war and this election was that the 'Kauravas' had emerged victorious in the polls.
