Congress wins 2 states, falls short in Haryana
New Delhi, Oct 22: While claiming a sweeping victory in the Maharashtra and Arunachal Pradesh assembly polls, Congress fell short of just six seats to win over the state of Haryana in the 2009 Assembly Polls.
In Maharashtra, Congress-NCP alliance thrashed the rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiv Sena alliance by bagging 142 wins and leading in two other constituencies, as per the latest update of the poll results available at 7 pm on Thursday, Oct 22.

BJP-Shiv Sena alliance secured 91 wins, while Third Front won 14 and others parties won 26. Raj Thackeray led-Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) opened its account in the assembly polls winning 13 seats in the 288-member legislative assembly.
In Arunachal Pradesh the Congress claimed majority winning 42 seats in the 60-member assembly. Among the others in the fray, BJP won 3, NCP won 6, Trinamool Congress won 5 and other parties claimed 4 seats.
However, in Haryana, Congress failed to secure a simple majority as the INDL did better than expected. Securing 40 seat in the 90-member assembly, Congress fell short of six votes and led the state into a hung assembly. INLD followed Congress with 32 votes, while BJP won 4, Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) won 3 and others won 8 seats.
