Locals & tourists plunder dinosaur eggs in TN
Tamil Nadu, Oct 7: Media reports revealed that locals and students are stealing and damaging the hundreds of dinosaur eggs in Ariyalur district of Tamil Nadu.
Some weeks ago, the scientists discovered 65 million years old dinosaur eggs across 2 square kilometres area at Senthurai village in Ariyalur.
However, as the site lies unprotected, tourists and locals are happily taking away the eggs and the egg clusters.
“We are unable to stop the plundering of the dinosaur eggs.Students from Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Karnataka have been digging for the eggs over the last few days," said scientist Mu Ramkumar of the Salem-based Periyar University, who led the research team which, found hundreds of fossilised dinosaur nests in Sep 2009.
