New Delhi, Sep 25: Premier of Australia"s Victoria state John Brumby who is on a visit to India to assure the country of the safety of its students down under, continued his campaign on Friday, Sep 25 saying that Australia would tighten laws to prevent racial attacks.

Reaffirming that Oz was committed to providing a safe and a secure environment for its foreign students, Brumby said, "We have tightened laws in the State of Victoria to prevent racial attacks on foreign students."

"We'll give police more powers and more resources to make sure we get the message out clearly in the community. Anybody who undertakes acts of racism or violence in Victoria will feel the full force of the law," Brumby added.

Australia is considering introduction of special legislation to avoid attacks and also to help the judiciary figure out if the attacks are racially motivated or not, Brumby informed.

Apart from the 'racist' attacks on students Brumby also spoke about the education scams in private colleges that have come to light recently. He said that Australia would make sure that the students are not only safe but are also given quality education that they were promised.
