McDonald's loses 'Mc' battle against McCurry
Kuala Lumpur, Sep 8: America's fast food chaian, McDonald's lost a eight year old battle against Malaysia's McCurry on the use of 'Mc' prefix.
The Kuala Lumpur Federal Court ruled against McDonald's citing that refix is an abbreviation for Malaysian Chicken Curry and that McCurry was not trying to pass itself off as part of the McDonald's.
This case started way back in 2001 when McDonald's sued McCurry. In 2006, a High Court ruled in favour of McDonald's, but McCurry took the case to the Court of Appeal where the previous ruling was overturned. Following this, McDonald's took the case to the Federal Court.
