Islamabad Aug 18: Media reports revealed that Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has requested the US to equip Pakistan with drone technology.

In a meeting with the US envoy Richard Holbrooke, who was on a special visit to Pakistan and Afghanistan, the prime minister urged the US to supply drones. The drone technology is said to have killed Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud earlier this month.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, State Minister for Finance Hina Rabbani Khar, US ambassador Ann W Patterson and other officials also attended the meeting.

Gilani said that the drones would help Pakistan to fight militants in the Afghan border. He also requested the US to end the drone attack as innocent civilians were being killed in the process.

The military operation in north-west Pakistan against the Taliban is said to have impressed Holbrooke, who has assured that US will cooperate in restoring home to the displaced people.
