'Global Icon' SRK is welcome guest in US: Roemer

New Delhi, Aug 15: After Bollywood actor, Shah Rukh Khan became the most recent victim to racial profiling, India took up the issue with US Embassy on Saturday, Aug 15.

The embassy has reportedly said that it was ascertaining details about the incident involving the Newark-New Jersey Airport authorities detaining and questing a 'global icon' like SRK.

"We are clarifying. We are trying to ascertain facts about the incident," US Ambassador to India Timothy J Roemer reportedly said.

Roemer was quoted in a news agency report saying,"he is a very welcome guest in the United States. Many Americans love his films."

Shah Rukh Khan who was on his way to Chicago to attend a Independence Day celebrations was reportedly detained and question by Airport Authorities in Newark for two hours.

He was questioned because his surname 'Khan' figures in alert list of US airport officials since the 9/11 attacks.

This comes after former Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam was frisked by US Airliner, Continental Airlines in spite of him being on the dignitaries' list that exempts him from going through security checks.

Even then, the US authorities claimed that the security measures have been tightened after the 9/11 attacks and no one was exempted from such checks.
