India: Inflation raises marginally, still -ve
New Delhi, Jul 16: After four weeks of continual slip, the Indan inflation rate rose marginally to -1.21 per cent for the week ended Jul 4.
According to the government data released on Thursday, Jul 16 the price index for primary articles remains unchanged at its previous week level of 258.5 (provisional), while that for manufactured products went up by 0.2 per cent.
The price index for fuel and power rose steeply by 3.1 per cent to 338.2 (provisional), due to 15 pc price hike of naphtha, 11pc hike for furnace oil, 10 pc hike for petrol, 7 pc rise in high speed diesel oil and 2 pc hike in bitumen prices.
The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) rate for the previous week was at -1.55 per cent due to the fuel price hike.
