Mkts end +ve; telecom, banks gain
Mumbai, Jul 1: At 04:30 pm, the benchmark indices managed to stay on the higher side in the second half of the trade. The Nifty surpassed the 4350 level during the day. Education, sugar, brokerage and oil marketing companies" shares witnessed huge buying interest in today's trade.
Upside in telecom, realty, banking, power, technology and select metal stocks along with Reliance Industries helped the markets. Positive global cues were also being supportive. However, selling in ONGC, Power Grid, Cipla, Nalco, Hindalco, Grasim and Maruti added some volatility.
The 50-share NSE Nifty remained ranged at 4300-4350 and the 30-share BSE Sensex at 14600-14700 in the second half of the trade. Former Index closed at 4340.90, up 1.16 pc or 49.80 points and later one went up 151.63 points or 1.05 pc, to settle at 14,645.47.
Mkts positive; DLF, Bharati Airtel gain
At 01:02 pm, the markets were witnessing smart recovery and trading higher. Buying interest was seen in realty, IT, FMCG, capital goods, banks, power, auto and oil & gas stocks. Stocks like Reliance, Infosys, L&T, ICICI Bank and HDFC were positive contributors to the Sensex.
The Sensex was up 166.74 points or 1.15 pc at 14660.58, and the Nifty was up 54.05 points or 1.26 pc at 4345.15. About 1154 shares advanced, 1520 shares declined, and 481 shares were unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex were DLF at Rs 321.65 up 3.49 pc, Bharti Airtel at Rs 824.15 up 2.75 pc, HUL at Rs 273.15 up 2.27 pc, Sterlite Ind at Rs 619.50 up 1.92 pc and Tata Motors at Rs 296 up 1.67 pc.
However, top losers on the Sensex were Hindalco at Rs 82 down 5.15 pc, ACC at Rs 761.25 down 0.99 pc, ONGC at Rs 1,057 down 0.95 pc, Jaiprakash Asso at Rs 204 down 0.51 pc and Tata Steel at Rs 390.20 down 0.15 pc.
Mkts volatile; Sensex down by 72 pts
At 11:24 am, the benchmark indices were extremely volatile in trade. The Nifty was struggling at the 4300 mark while the Sensex was hovering around 14400-14500 levels.
Shares of oil & gas exploration, power, metal, realty, select banking companies along with Reliance Communication, TCS, BHEL, ABB and ACC were putting pressure on the markets. However, Bharti, HUL, HDFC, Sun Pharma, Wipro, Tata Motors, Idea, M&M, ITC and Grasim were trying to support.
The Sensex was down 72 points, to 14,421 and the Nifty fell 22 points, to 4,268. About 363 shares advanced while 771 shares declined on the NSE. The broader indices were down 0.5 pc each.
Educomp Solutions, Suzlon Energy, HDIL, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries and Unitech were most active shares on the bourses.
Mkts choppy; ACC, ICICI, TCS slip
The markets opened on a positive note. At 9:56 am, the Nifty rose 16 points, to 4,307 and the Sensex gained 42 points, to 14,536. The CNX Midcap went up 22 points, to 5,449. About 344 shares advanced while 165 shares declined on the NSE.
Among the frontliners, ABB, Reliance Power, Tata Motors, Suzlon, Reliance Infrastructure, SAIL, Sun Pharma, Grasim, Idea Cellular, ITC, Cipla, Jindal Steel and Siemens were the gainers. However, Hindalco (post numbers), ACC, ICICI Bank, TCS and Nalco were the losers.
In midcap space, BPL, Tulip Telecom and Ajmera Realty gained 2.5-7 pc. GMR Infra continued its downtrend, due to calling off Rs 2000 crore QIP, down over 2 pc. While, IVRCL Infra, GVK Power and SREI Infrastructure were also down over 1 pc
Kingfishre Airlines slipped 3 pc and RNRL was down 1.2 pc. NIIT, Provogue, GSPL, Monnet Ispat and Simplex Infra were other gainers, post their numbers. However, Omaxe and Indian Hotel declined post their numbers.
