2008 Riot case: Raj Thackeray out on bail

Mumbai, Jun 29: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief, Raj Thackeray who was earlier, surrendered before the local Kalyan court on Monday, Jun 29 in 2008 riot case has been granted bail on surety of 1 lakh rupees.

The state government which had filed an appeal in the High Court and has granted anticipatory bail to the MNS leader. Justice Rekha Sondurbaldota said that the custodial interrogation of Thackeray was not necessary at this stage.

Raj Thackeray to attend Kalyan court on Jun 29

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief, Raj Thackeray will surrender before the local Kalyan court on Monday, Jun 29 in 2008 riot case in which North Indians appearing for a railway recruitment examination on October 19 were assaulted by MNS activists.

The High Court on Jun 16 set aside an anticipatory bail granted to Thackeray in the same case by a lower court and asked him to surrender before the court concerned by June end.

Sources said that the MNS activist are expected to flock to the court in large numbers. It also said that his lawyer Sayaji Nangre said he would oppose the police plea for custody.
