AF 447 crash: Brazil ends search for bodies

Brasilia, Jun 27: Brazilian security forces have reportedly called off the search for the victims of the Air France 447 crash. However, French navy ships are expected to continue their search for the black box as it may hold the information as to what led to the crash which is still unknown.

After 26 days of search operations, the Brazilian Air Force and Navy on Friday, Jun 26 said that they have ended their search for passenger bodies and wreckage of flight AF 447.

Brazilian Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Henry Munhoz said that it was unlikely that they will find any more bodies and it has already been nine days since a body was recovered. It is highly unlikely to find additional bodies and wreckage in the search area so many days after the crash, Munhoz said.

Till now, authorities have recovered 51 bodies, 600 pieces of wreckage from the Airbus A330-200 jetliner that crashed into the Atlantic ocean on Jun 1.
