Agatha Sangma wants women empowerment and equal rights
Shillong, June 20 (ANI): Minister of State for Rural Development Agatha Sangma on Saturday said that the women of the country needed to be empowered politically.
"Women need political empowerment and equal rights. They should participate in the growth of the society," Agatha told reporters in Shillong.
"However, we need to be careful as there might be cases where politicians might take advantage of the Bill (Women's reservation Bill)," Agatha said.
Talking about the schemes of her ministry, Agatha told she was working to bridge the gap between the urban and the rural areas.
"There is lack of proper implementation of the schemes. It is often seen that the State governments lack the technical know-how and information. The governments should be more proactive," Agatha added.
Agatha, who represents Tura constituency in Lok Sabha, also said she would act as a facilitator for better coordination between the states and the Centre so that the states are able to justify the funds allotted to them.
Asserting that she was taking initiatives for opening up technical schools in the region, the NCP leader said,"We need to address the problems of the struggling youths of the region. They need to be educated technically and their talents need to be channelised". (ANI)
